John D. Hoggan, Jr.

John D. Hoggan, Jr., a partner in the firm, is an experienced business and trial lawyer, whose practice includes the representation and counseling of major developers, corporations, transportation companies and municipalities in regard to several diverse areas of law, including: environmental and land use law, new project development, commercial litigation and employment law. A major part of his practice involves the representation of clients in litigation and alternative dispute resolution concerning commercial and environmental matters.

Mr. Hoggan regularly counsels developers, manufacturers and transportation companies in regard to litigation matters, environmental permitting issues, and related administrative proceedings and litigation. He had a lead role representing a large energy company in a contested permit proceeding under the Clean Water Act requirements relating to existing cooling water intake structures. With regard to zoning and land use matters, Mr. Hoggan was the lead attorney in several significant and hotly contested matters including the development of the largest shopping center in Columbia County, New York, and litigation relating to the largest composting facility in New York State. Mr. Hoggan's commercial litigation experience is broad and diverse. He represents numerous corporate clients in regard to contractual and other business disputes, including contractual indemnification claims, shareholder claims and commercial lease disputes. He also served as local counsel to another Fortune 500 company in regard to numerous litigations involving toxic tort claims.

Prior to forming Stockli Greene Slevin & Peters, LLP, Mr. Hoggan practiced in the Environmental Health and Safety, and Litigation departments of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP, where he represented a varied roster of corporate and municipal clients regarding many different issues, and was a law clerk to the Honorable David N. Hurd, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of New York. He was also an attorney in the Los Angeles office of O'Melveny & Myers, LLP, where his practice involved the representation of airlines and other clients in regard to labor and employment law issues.

Mr. Hoggan is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, summa cum laude, and Cornell Law School, cum laude. Before attending law school, Mr. Hoggan had a career with Consolidated Rail Corporation, where he worked his way up from trainman to train dispatcher to trainmaster, supervising train operations in one of the largest rail yards on the East Coast.
